What Is a Full Mouth Reconstruction?

Do you have numerous dental issues that cannot be resolved with simple fillings, braces, a single dental implant, or dentures? If this is the case, it may be appropriate for you to receive full mouth reconstruction or restoration. Undergoing this treatment means that the dentist will reconstruct and/or replace part or all of the patient’s teeth.

Even though it may be costly and require several dental implants paired with other treatments, it’s worth every penny since it can restore your beautiful smile.

Full Mouth Reconstruction 101

What Is It?

All of your teeth may be restored or rebuilt as part of a full mouth reconstruction, giving your smile a more natural appearance. If you’ve lost many or all of them, you can use this treatment to correct your jaw, teeth, and mouth to perfection.

Full mouth reconstruction is recommended when a patient has exceptionally worn-down teeth, broken teeth, injury, trauma, dental disease, and jaw placement problems. It provides both aesthetic and practical benefits.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Anyone with several missing teeth, extensive fillings, decay, or cracked teeth can benefit from a full mouth restoration. Additionally, it is excellent for those with severely damaged teeth from sports-related accidents or tooth grinding. These patients will primarily receive a newly reconstructed mouth with enhanced function and appearance.

Good candidates for full mouth reconstruction may include those born with uncommon oral disorders like dentinogenetic imperfecta or ectodermal dysplasia. The majority of this treatment requires some level of local anesthetic.

If undergoing a more complex treatment is necessary, you need to be able to endure the level of sedation that’s required.

How Long Does It Take?

The time spent for the treatment depends on the quantity, nature, and state of your dental health. Additionally, you can decide to work with your dentist to maximize your dental insurance and budget-friendly treatment planning.

Benefits

The advantages of full mouth reconstruction are numerous. It can reduce the risk of oral infections resulting from tooth loss and significant tooth damage.

This process can resolve any oral health problems you may be experiencing, such as tooth decay or gum disease. After reconstruction, you can smile confidently, knowing that any nagging oral infections are gone.

Moreover, a full mouth reconstruction can be the best solution to fix your bite and jaw problems if you are also experiencing TMJ problems.

Treatments

The types of procedures differ from case to case. Your dentist will check your mouth carefully to determine what you need. They may also take X-rays, pictures, and impressions. You will also have to make time for a question-and-answer interview so your dentist will know about your worries and objectives.

Once everything is settled, your dentist will talk to you about one or more potential treatment regimens, such as:

  • Dental implants
  • Dentures
  • Bridges
  • Crowns
  • Crown lengthening
  • Teeth whitening
  • Dental bonding
  • Porcelain veneers
  • Inlays or onlays
  • Fillings
